How Lithuania said goodbye to its old currency

I remember how excited I was when we said goodbye to our francs, florins and marks to welcome the Euro. I was probably too young and eurothusiastic to feel any nostalgia for the old currencies; moreover I was French, studying in the Netherlands, commuting via Belgium, and more than happy to get rid of all these redundant coins.

In any case, I don’t remember any so cute way of saying goodbye to our old currencies as what I saw in Lithuania end of last year, just before the country switched to Euro: people were painting tears on the characters of the banknotes.
