This week, Ailsa‘s photo challenge theme is Old-Fashioned.
I have a passion for the old-fashioned fun fairs that you sometimes come across when travelling, especially in old Soviet block countries, although I have seen some in other places, too.
They look old and fragile, the metal structure is thin and rusty, the mechanics creaks – and yet they are there, in working condition, packed with people having fun.
I never resist the temptation of a ride!
It reminds you that some countries are lucky to have much more recent and safer installations – but how exaggerated things are, with all the shiny lights and loud music. Entertainment does not require frills!
The funfair of the photos is in Nukus, Uzbekistan. I visited this place on the way to the Aral sea in September 2012.
