Travel theme: Handmade on the Silk Road

This week, Ailsa‘s photo challenge theme is Handmade.

uzbekistan 274 - fergana

Silk worms spin cocoons around themselves, that we boil to kill the chrysalis inside and loosen the seracin that holds the cocoon together until the silk thread can be unravelled. This is how silk has been produced for centuries.

I visited this small workshop in Fergana, in Eastern Uzbekistan, during a road trip in September 2012.
