This week, Ailsa‘s photo challenge theme is Tree.
The baobab tree is a very mystical tree in Africa. It is often at the centre of foundation myths of the villages and is said to be inhabited by ancestors. A demon once pulled the tree and re-planted up-side down, leaving the roots up in the air – or at least this is how its unique shape is explained by a legend in Chad.
The baobab tree is also used for its culinary and medicinal properties, making it a very vital plant in the countries of the Sahel.
I have spotted the Baobab of the photo in Burkina Faso, south of Banfora.
