The Monday travel song: Minor Swing by Django Reinhardt & Stéphane Grappelli

I propose to start every new week with a song that takes us somewhere in the world.

This week, my Monday morning playlist takes us to Gypsyland with Minor Swing by Django Reinhardt & Stéphane Grappelli.

Django Reinhardt was born in a caravan on the road from France to Belgium in 1910 and grew up in Romany encampments close to Paris.

Django tried playing the banjo for the first time at the age of 12 and turned out to be a real musical prodigy. In an accident in 1928 (a fire ravaged his caravan) he lost the use of two fingers but never abandoned the music, playing all his guitar solos with only two fingers.

The swing festival season is starting again for me this week, and I will be next weekend at South London Swing Fest, dancing lindy hop all day and night.

Have a great week!
